How it works:
Each month PMQG selects what we call The Block of the Month (BOM), which is a monthly block lottery. We will then share the pattern of the selected block with members, as well as which colors to use for said block.
Each member may make one or more of these blocks, and bring them back for our next meeting. For each block a member brings they receive an entry to win all blocks that members have made for the month. For example, 1 block = 1 chance to win, 6 blocks = 6 chances to win.
Once a member wins all of the blocks, they must complete a flimsy( unfinished quilt top) and bring it in to show us, before they can win all blocks again. However, the member can still contribute blocks to the monthly lottery for others to win.
For questions please contact Maureen Howard.

If you are concerned you will not be able to identify your block(s). Please use an erasable fabric pen to write your name or initials on the seam allowance on the back of your block(s), like in the image below.

January BOM
Pensacola Modern Quilt Guild
January 2026 Block of the Month
MINIATURE NINE-PATCH BLOCK TUTORIAL
Materials
One 4.5-inch light square
One 4.5-inch red square
Notes
The steps below create two blocks
Use an accurate 1/4-inch seam throughout
Reference video: https://youtu.be/u97JEFyu5y0
Step-by-Step Instructions
Pair the Squares - Place the squares right side together.
Sew Two Opposite Sides - Sew a 1/4-inch seam along two opposite sides
Cut Into Strips - Cut twice at 1.5 inches, creating strips.
Press - Press seams consistently towards the red for all strips.
Arrange the Strips – Stack the strips horizontally into one light-red-light AND one red-light-red layout. This will create two blocks
Sew the Strips Together - Sew the strips together, matching seams carefully.
Press Again - Press the seams flat, keeping everything square, and towards the red.
Sew Two Opposite Sides Again - Place the unit right sides together and sew along two opposite sides.
Cut Again at 1.5 Inches - Cut twice at 1.5 inches.
Final Assembly - Rearrange rows so light and red fabrics alternate properly. Sew the rows together to complete the nine-patch block, creating two blocks.
Do Not Trim - The block will finish at the correct size without trimming.
Helpful Hint: For sharper intersections at this small scale, slightly shorten your stitch length (around 2.0) and finger-press before using the iron.
